Synopsis

Sailor Moon S is considered one of the darkest story lines in the series, partly due to the villains' ultimate goal of destroying, rather than conquering, all life in the world, as well as ethical themes of sacrifice. The arc is characterized by the appearance of three new Sailor Senshi: Sailors Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn. It also reintroduces the character of Sailor Pluto and gives her a civilian identity, Setsuna Meioh. In the anime, Chibiusa is seen for the first time in her capacity as Sailor Chibi Moon. The series antagonists are the Death Busters, led by mad scientist Professor Souichi Tomoe and the Witches 5.

Ending themes: “Moonlight Densetsu" (ムーンライト伝説, Mūnraito Densetsu?, lit. "Moonlight Legend") by DALI
Insert songs: Nagareboshi e and Todokanu Omoi, by Three-Lights

Synopsis

Sailor Stars begins with six episodes that re-introduce the previous season's villain, Queen Nehellenia, as well as the four Outer Senshi, who meet her for the first time (they did not appear during the fourth season). These episodes originated as filler to allow Takeuchi time to begin her new story-arc; afterward the season follows the manga. Its plot branches out to introduce new characters and even new Sailor Senshi from other planets, including the Sailor Starlights, Princess Kakyuu, and Chibi Chibi. As in the manga, Chibiusa returns to her own time after the final battle with Nehellenia, and is not a participant in the events of this story arc. The primary villain is Sailor Galaxia, queen of an organization called Shadow Galactica, who seeks to rule the galaxy by collecting "true star seeds" (the equivalent of the manga's Sailor Crystals). Of the five story arcs, Sailor Stars is the only one featuring recurring villains of only one gender; all female, because they are all parody-Senshi. In the anime, it is also the only arc in which all the villains who die are killed by other villains.

Title (english): Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon R The Movie
Episodes: 1
Release date: December 5, 1993

Synopsis

The movie opens with an introduction by Usagi and the other Senshi. After the movie's introduction, a young Mamoru appears on the roof of a hospital: he hands another small boy a rose. The little boy thanks him and says, "No one has ever given me a gift before". He then dissolves into thin air as he vows to bring Mamoru a flower. The movie flashes forward to the present day, with Mamoru, Usagi, and the rest of the four "Inner" Senshi at a botanical garden. Usagi tries to steal a kiss from Mamoru, but when he suspects that he is being spied on by the other senshi, he walks off outside alone, which gives the other Senshi a chance to play a prank on Usagi.
While outside, the fountain a few feet from Mamoru suddenly goes silent and a pink rose-petal floats past him. The sky goes dark and thousands of flower-petals fall out of the sky as the girls come outside; Usagi and Chibiusa laughing and giggling. A young man about Mamoru's age appears and the flower petals vanish. Usagi runs up to Mamoru, asking him if he saw the flower petals, but the young man interrupts her and takes Mamoru's hand. Mamoru has no idea as to the identity of the young man, and these events terrify Usagi. She tries to remove the man's hand from Mamoru, but the man gets angry and forcefully pushes Usagi down. He vows that no one will prevent him from keeping his promise. He shoots flower petals at the group and then vanishes in a flurry of them. While the girls question the identity of the young man, Mamoru mutters "Fiore... it can't be."
Later, back at Rei's temple, the group (without Mamoru) discuss an asteroid which has started to approach Earth and on which Luna and Artemis have discovered traces of vegetal life. The talk turns into gossip about Mamoru's and Fiore's possible relationship, while Usagi thinks about how Mamoru had told her that he had no family and was alone, and how she had promised him she would be his family from now on.
Fiore sends a flower-monster, Glycina, to Tokyo, where the next morning, it begins draining the life energy from the populace. The Guardian Senshi, who were walking to school that morning when Rei sensed danger nearby, free the people. The senshi transform, and destroy the monster. Just then, Fiore appears to the senshi, and reveals that he is responsible for the attack. It then emerges that Fiore uses a Xenian flower. He then uses great force to injure the senshi by slamming them into walls. Sailor Jupiter tries to fight Fiore, but he slams her into a telephone booth. Just as he was about to kill Sailor Moon by impaling her on his claw-like fingernails, Tuxedo Mask jumps into the scene, and tries to talk Fiore out of fighting. But, the Xenian flower controls Fiore's mind, and he tries to attack Sailor Moon. Fiore then launches his nails towards Sailor Moon, but then, Tuxedo Mask jumps in front of her and takes the hit himself. Mortified, Fiore takes Mamoru's limp body back aboard an asteroid rapidly approaching Earth and begins to revive him in a crystal filled with liquid, while Sailor Moon, stunned by Tuxedo Mask's heroic action, cries over him being taken away.
While in the crystal, Mamoru remembers a young Fiore, who had made friends with him just after his parents died in a car accident. Mamoru had previously assumed that that he had made up the boy as an imaginary friend. Fiore explains that he had had to leave Mamoru because the Earth's atmosphere did not suit him, but before they parted Mamoru gave Fiore a rose. After that, Fiore wandered the galaxy, searching for a worthy flower for Mamoru, and found the Xenian flower, which began to rule him. He then returns to Earth, seeking revenge on the humans who had made Mamoru lonely.
Meanwhile, Luna and Artemis tell the senshi of an old legend about the Xenian flower and how it destroyed planets by using weak-hearted people. Afterwards, Sailor Mercury finds out that the energy from the asteroid matches the evil energy of the flower-monster, and conclude that Fiore has hidden there and that he holds Mamoru as a prisoner. They decide to go after Mamoru, but Sailor Moon orders the senshi not to, or they would've suffered the same as Mamoru. She then thinks that his disappearance is her fault, and says that Fiore took him because he shielded her from Fiore's attack. Furious, Chibiusa tells her that if she acts like that, she won't be able to rescue Mamoru. Encouraged by the other senshi, Sailor Moon changes her mind, and the Senshi teleport to the asteroid to battle Fiore and rescue Mamoru.
Hundreds of flowers cover the asteroid. Fiore confronts the Senshi and tells them of his plan to scatter flower-seeds all over the planet, draining humanity's energy. The Senshi then fight hundreds of flower-monsters. The monsters combine into one and ensnare the Guardian Senshi; Mars tosses Moon aside before it can get her too. Fiore orders Moon to drop her weapon, the Cutie Moon Rod, and to surrender, or her friends will suffer. They urge her to fight, but she drops the weapon and begins to cry. Xenian's control over Fiore weakens with the display of emotion and the flower monsters disappear. But then, the Xenian blossom possesses Fiore, in which thereafter, he grabs hold of Sailor Moon, and drains her life-force energy to the flower-monsters.
Mamoru breaks free of his chamber as Fiore continues draining Sailor Moon's life-force energy. Fiore accuses Usagi of inability to understand his loneliness, causing the four inner Guardian Senshi to remember their own loneliness. The Guardian Senshi tell Fiore that without Usagi, they all would have been left alone, and beg him not to kill her. Fiore goes to stab Usagi, and Mamoru throws a rose at Fiore and collapses. Usagi is safe. The rose embedded in Fiore's chest blooms and causes the Xenian's possession of Fiore to break.
Fiore feels betrayed by Mamoru, and all the flowers on the asteroid vanish. However, the asteroid continues to hurtle towards Earth. Usagi wakes up, and despite her friends' warnings, uses the Silver Crystal to try to change the course of the asteroid. However, Fiore suddenly grabs Usagi's Crystal Star brooch in an attempt to stop her, which then forces Usagi's transformation to fade to ribbons. Usagi grabs Fiore, who suddenly sees a vision. Fiore realizes that Usagi had given Mamoru the rose that Mamoru gave to Fiore. Fiore becomes overcome with emotion, and the Xenian is destroyed by the immense power and energy from the Silver Crystal. Fiore vanishes, and Mamoru and the Guardian Senshi lend Princess Serenity their powers and abilities to sustain the Silver Crystal as the asteroid descends towards Earth. The Silver Crystal shatters, the asteroid breaks up, and Usagi dies. Meanwhile on Earth, Luna and Artemis express concern over why the senshi are taking too long. Chibiusa then assures them both that the Sailor Senshi are alright, but Luna remains concerned.
Meanwhile, on the unstable asteroid, now dissolved, the girls and Mamoru cry over Usagi, but Fiore reappears and thanks Mamoru. He gives Mamoru a nectar-filled flower with Fiore's life-energy. Mamoru wets his lips with the nectar and kisses Usagi, reviving her and repowering the Silver Crystal. As she returns to life, Fiore, reduced to the form of a child again, returns to space to live in peace.

Title (romaji): Gekijōban Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn Sūpā
Title (english): Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon S The Movie
Episodes: 1
Release date: December 4, 1994

Synopsis

Long ago, Princess Snow Kaguya tried to cover the Earth in ice, but failed when the Imperium Silver Crystal melted the ice and saved the planet. She has now made her way to Earth to try again. A piece of her comet has been lost and she cannot proceed without it. She sends her minions, the Snow Dancers, to search for the missing shard. A young astronomer named Kakeru Ōzora finds the shard and keeps it in his observatory.
The Senshi are enjoying a day in town. Luna develops a cold and leaves the Senshi to go back to Usagi's house. On the way there, she collapses while crossing the road, and is almost hit by a car, but is rescued and nursed to health by Kakeru. Luna then develops romantic feelings for him, even kissing him in his sleep, leaving Artemis feeling rejected. Luna herself ends up with unrequited love because it turns out that Kakeru has a girlfriend of his own, an astronaut named Himeko Nayotake, and more importantly, because Luna is a cat. It turns out the two are unhappy because the scientific Himeko cannot come to terms with Kakeru's belief of the existence of the mythological Princess Kaguya; Himeko later leaves on a space mission without reconciling with him.
The shard of the comet that Kakeru collected attaches itself to his life force, and begins slowly stealing his life force energy, causing him to become very ill. Princess Snow Kaguya later takes the shard, but because it is linked to his life force, he is brought even closer to death when Snow Kaguya throws the shard into the Pacific Ocean and creates an enormous ice crystal that will continue to draw away Kakeru's life force energy until he dies. She and her Snow Dancers then begin to freeze the Earth. The Inner and Outer Sailor Soldiers attempt to stop her, but none of their attacks seem to work, as everytime they destroy the Snow Dancers, Kaguya keeps reviving them using the crystal. Just before Snow Kaguya could finish the soldiers off, Sailor Moon tries to stop her. She uses Rainbow Moon Heartache, but is overpowered by Kaguya's power. Determined to protect the Earth, Sailor Moon prepares to activate the Silver Crystal's immense power. All of the eight Sailor Soldiers along, with Sailor Chibi Moon, combine their powers and abilities to activate the Imperium Silver Crystal's immense power, which destroys Princess Snow Kaguya, her Snow Dancers, the ice crystal in the ocean, and her comet.
When the Senshi defeat Princess Snow Kaguya, Sailor Moon wishes for Luna to become Princess Kaguya. Kakeru, worried about Himeko's safety, had been wandering in the snowstorm and is saved by Luna at the exact point Kakeru saved her, transformed into a woman. She takes him near the moon, where Himeko, on her space mission, witnesses the odd phenomenon. Luna tells him that he needs to stop focusing on his work so much and to pay more attention to Himeko. She shares a sad kiss with him, then they return to normal. Kakeru takes up Luna's advice and meets Himeko, who now believes in Kaguya, at the airport. Artemis then comforts Luna and they reconcile.

Title (romaji): Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn Sūpāzu: Sērā Kyū Senshi Shūketsu! Burakku Dorīmu Hōru no Kiseki
Title (english): Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon SuperS: The 9 Sailor Soldiers Unite! Miracle of the Black Dream Hole
Episodes: 1
Release date: December 23, 1995

Synopsis

The movie begins with Poupelin playing a magical song called Sanji no Yosei ("Three O' Clock Fairy") on his flute. He uses the tune to hypnotize children and cause them to follow him away from their homes, reminiscent of the story The Pied Piper of Hamelin. Happily singing along, many pajama-clad children follow him into a strange flying ship, and they sail off into the sky.
The next day, we see Usagi, Chibiusa, and the other girls baking cookies together. Usagi ends up with cookies that look perfect and taste terrible; Chibiusa produces the reverse. Taking her ugly, delicious cookies with her in a sack, Chibiusa sets out to give them to Mamoru, but is stalled by the vision of a winged boy in strange white clothing standing outside the sweets shop. She blinks, and sees him more clearly as a normal boy dressed in red. They befriend each other, and he causes some of the treats inside the shop window to dance by playing a tune on his flute. He then introduces himself as Peruru.
Meanwhile, Usagi, visits Mamoru with her cookies, but is still agitated by his friendship with Chibiusa. She demands to know which of them is more important to him, but he is unable to answer — they are, after all, his future wife and daughter. Just then, they hear a report on the radio about the mass disappearance of children all over the world, and both fall silent. Around the same time, Chibiusa gives her bag of cookies to Peruru, and they part.
That night, the girls wake up to find Chibiusa and the other children walking, mesmerized, through the city. They save Chibiusa, but get into a fight with Poupelin, the flutist, and his "Bonbon Babies." In turn, Tuxedo Mask appears, then Perle (who tries to dissuade Poupelin), and finally a projection of Queen Badiane, who orders the fairies to hurry up. Peruru says outright that he does not believe in her anymore, but she seems unconcerned and orders that Super Sailor Chibi Moon be captured, too. A Bonbon Baby lifts Chibi Moon onto the ship, which rises into the sky and vanishes!
The ship lands, along with two others, in the depths of Marzipan Castle. When the doors are opened, all the children run delightedly out into the darkness, except for Chibi Moon. Looking into the shadows, she sees hundreds of "Dream Coffins," each containing a now-sleeping child. An enormous Badiane lifts her into the air, commenting on the power she senses from Chibi Moon, and explains her purpose. In the center of the castle, a Black Dream Hole is forming, gathering the "sugar energy" of the sleeping children. Eventually it will overtake Earth, and all humans will enter into Dream Coffins.
Meanwhile, Peruru leads the other Sailor Soldiers to a flying ship of his own. He recalls as they fly how Badiane had promised that the children would be happy and safe in her world of dreams and where they can remain children indefinitely, but he thinks also of Chibiusa, his friend. As they reach the castle, they are attacked, and after crash-landing must battle Poupelin, Banane, and Orangeat, as well as three sets of Bonbon Babies. Just when the situation seems hopeless, the Senshi are saved by the appearance of Sailors Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto. With this advantage, they are able to break the flutes of the three fairies, which changes them into small birds. The Senshi continue into the palace.
They then confront Queen Badiane, who has drained enough dream energy from the children, particularly Chibiusa, to create a large Black Dream Hole. The power drain is enough to force all the Sailor Soldiers except Super Sailor Moon into a half-detransformation. Taking Chibiusa with her, Badiane enters the hole itself, and Super Sailor Moon follows. Sailor Moon then finds herself in Mamoru's apartment, carrying Chibiusa (who is now dressed in her pajamas). Mamoru lays her on the bed, then wraps his arms around Super Sailor Moon and tells her not to worry about anything, just to stay there with him. She asks him again who is more important, herself or Chibiusa; this time he tells her that she is. Smiling, Super Sailor Moon lifts Chibiusa in her arms again and decides to wake up - the whole experience was nothing more than reverie.
Breaking out of the Dream Coffin, Super Sailor Moon faces Badiane, who is now a ball of fiery energy in the middle of the black hole. Hearing her mental cry, the other Senshi offer their magical mystic energy to Super Sailor Moon, who awakens Super Sailor Chibi Moon. Together, they destroy Badiane with a "Moon Gorgeous Meditation" attack. After the battle, Marzipan Castle self-destructs, and with Perle's help, the Senshi escape. The airships, each carrying children, descend back to Earth.
Later, at a beach, Peruru gives Chibiusa his glass flute, telling her that he is the fairy who protects children, and will always be with her. Chibiusa gives him a kiss on the cheek, and he blushes, looking startled, before flying away. The film ends with a shot of all the Senshi looking out over the sun rising.
